Brandenburg, the region around Berlin, is considered low in raw materials. In addition to lignite, there is wood, sand and clay. These materials formed the basis for glassworks, pottery factories and, above all,for brickworks that supplied the bricks from which Berlin was built. How can a sustainable building culture be developed today that is based on these raw materials? What can ceramics contribute in terms of energy efficiency, indoor climate, quality of living and quality of staying in buildings and public places? How do ceramics relate to the region, to local production cycles and recycling cycles, to the regional cultural identity?
