The objects that surround us have the power to influence our behavior, interaction and development as a society. At the dinner table of today smartphones seem to have become part of the default setting, with their information flows interrupting the traditional connection between people while eating together. Connected Unplugged is a dining ritual guided by a set of tableware. Its design assigns phones a place out of sight, unplugging us from the virtual world. The shapes of the plates alter the order in which we perceive and consume the food, enticing the olfactory senses before unveiling the hidden content. The aim is to achieve a mindful connection to the moment and the people we are sharing it with.
